Emancipation movie, Peter, a slave, flees a plantation in Louisiana after he was whipped within an inch of his life. He has to outwit cold-blooded hunters and the unforgiving swamps of Louisiana on a tortuous journey north.

Emancipation is a 2022 American historicalaction film.  Starring Will Smith as an enslaved black man in Louisiana in the 1860s who escapes his plantation and tried to get into the Abraham Lincoln’s freedom camp. Peter(Will Smith) was taken away from his family to work on a railway construction project as a slave. He heard the white enslavers talking about the Lincoln’s party. He then decided that, if he could get into the camp, then maybe he will have a chance of being reunited with his family again.

Peter’s journey towards freedom began when he decided to test the luck of fate by defying the odds and challenges attached to his yet to be revealed situation. His ordeal in the hands of terror and wickedness was prioritised and painted by the powerful story telling ability of Antoine Fuqua. A very smart and intelligent Peter was always a mile ahead of his tormentors. As he kept them lagging behind with his antics and plans. Thereby making sure they don’t have an idea of how he is to get to the Lincoln’s camp.

The film, written by William N. Collage, is loosely based on the real-life story of Gordon (named “Peter” in the film),[2] a former slave, and the photographs of his bare back, heavily scourged from an overseer’s whippings, that were published worldwide in 1863, giving the abolitionist movement proof of the cruelty of American slavery. The film also stars Ben Foster and Charmaine Bingwa. Directed by Antoine Fuqua whose a master at telling intriguing, action packed stories.

The cinematography, swift cutting, scores and emotions the movie carries will surely do have an enormous impact on viewers. And also relinquish the terrors that the slave masters incurred on fellow humans. The movie feels so good and well documented that we will rate it 4.5/5stars.
